My Perception Gap Results

For each statement above, you can compare the average agreement of the Democrats in our study (plotted in blue) to your own agree and disagree choices (shown in the text column to the right of the graph). For several of the statements, we show the disagreement level. This is calculated by subtracting the agreement percentage from 100. This allows us to compare the statements in a consistent way: all numbers approaching 100 indicate similarity to Republican views, while numbers approaching zero indicate distance from Republican views. 

Here you can compare your estimates (shown in blue) of Republicans' beliefs to the average of Republicans in our study (shown in red). The gray bar indicates the gap between your perception and the reality of Republicans' views. The Perception Gap score above is the average of all individual gaps. Positive gap numbers indicate overestimates of how partisan or extreme the other side is, while negative numbers indicate the opposite.
